Plant-based fertilizers

Plant-based fertilizers.

The data obtained in the last decade showed a high fertilization usefulness of waste from fruit processing. They can be used as fertilizer for specific species of fruit plants.

The pomace. In this group, apple pomace is the most important. Hess i Lust (1978) compost them with the addition of organic fertilizing substances and through 15 for years they fertilized the apple orchard with a dose 15 t / ha. Graefe (1975), employee of the Vienna Academy of Sciences, he investigated the effect of fertilization with grape marc on the yield and health of grapevines. The best results, both in terms of the yield, and plant health, obtained after applying composted pomace on the surface (with a layer of 2–5 cm). On coffee plantations in Mexico from 14 For years, coffee fruit compost has been used to reclaim wasteland (Merckens 1976).

These few examples show that there can be a greater use of bagasse. However, you have to remember, that in the pomace of foreign origin there may be residues of chemical plant protection products. Therefore, they should be tested for chemical contamination prior to use. This reservation does not apply to hop marc, from which you can easily obtain valuable compost. During extraction, which takes place at high temperature and humidity, residues of plant protection products decompose. The pomace provides a lot of organic matter, but not enough nutrients available to plants. They are an excellent substrate for the production of humus. A small addition of fertilizers and the use of biodynamic preparations increase the fertilizing value of bagasse compost. It is used near processing plants or breweries, but long distance transportation is very expensive. That is why plant fertilizers produced from pomace in dry and powdered form are becoming more and more important.

Castinus meal. It has recently gained many followers. A one-year castor plant in our climate (Ricinus communis) from the spine family, it grows up in its homeland, w Zanzibarze, up to a few meters. Oil used in medicine and technology is obtained from castor seeds. The ground residue makes an excellent fertilizer. By using this meal in orchards, trees were cured of a dangerous root neck disease, ring rot of the base of the stem of fruit trees, caused by the fungus Phytophlhora cactorum.

Tree bark compost. Recently, various types of such compost have been put on sale packed in sacks. It is a material that replaces peat, because, according to the results of experiments on its use on heavy soils, it perfectly loosens and aerates the soil. Despite the low content of minerals, it is an excellent bedding or compost additive made of materials easily compacting into a homogeneous mass., e.g.. from apple pomace. Algae extracts. Finally, it is worth paying attention to the algae extract, versatile. It is mainly made of branched brown thallus that live in the Atlantic.

Just like land plants, algae living in the water also breathe, they nourish themselves and transform the substances they have taken. The results of the analysis of the algae thallus show, that the proportions of the various components of their body are similar to that of seawater. Brown algae and green algae contain over 60 micronutrients and many substances in a form available to plants, growth stimulants. These substances can be directly taken up by the leaves and roots of higher plants. There are two algae fertilizers available on the market: Algifert and Polymaris are suitable for foliar and soil fertilization of crops. You can notice their effectiveness after a short time of using these fertilizers. The leaves and flowers of the fertilized plants are darker in color, and the whole plant is more resistant to diseases and pests.
